ICMC: New Tutorial, New Upload Limit & New Jury E-mail
Friday, 01 February 2008
As you've noticed so much news has been released for the Intel / Crysis Mapping Contest! Well, new contene and info has been released regarding a new tutorial, some more important news about the maximum level size for submission.

Tutorial - Resizing level.pak

Let's start with the latest addition to the useful tutorials for the ICMC. This little tutorial has been kindly created by our Community Manager Sven "c4Te" Metzger and explains you step-by-step how to rep-pack the level.pak file of your level.

It is recommended to follow this tutorial once you are finished with your map to receive the best possible packing result of the .pak file. Of course it can be applied earlier as well, but if you modify the level afterwards the files are getting added to the .pak file without the compression from WinRar.

The efficency of the re-packing heavily depends on the original size of the .pak file and the objects that are in it. In our example the result was 33% size reduction of the level.pak file. So in the case you add custom models to your level be sure to use this method in order to not exceed the upload limit.

Upload Limit Raised

The next topic could be quite interesting for everyone who is already struggling with the current upload limit of 100MB. After looking at the current released custom levels and taking into consideration that many people who contribute a map might add custom objects as well we had an internal discussion about this topic.

We then decided to set the new upload limit to 300MB, which should provide enough space to get even the huge maps with lots of custom objects submitted properly. This decision also has been made based on the fact that we are going to introduce a new upload functionality tomorrow that allows larger uploads.

New Jury Member for Clanbase

As last topic for this update we would like to welcome a new jury member to the mapping contest. The Clanbase has chosen Filip "Doggfather" Lundgren as the person who is going to judge the best e-sport maps for PowerStruggle and InstantAction together with the other jury members.

If you got additional questions feel free to put them in the comments and we will get them answered quickly!
