The environments in Crysis will be huge. Each multiplayer map will span for many kilometres.

Crysis will be played in three main envrionments. The tropical jungle, the frozen jungle, and inside the alien ship. You will also spend a bit of time on the aircraft carrier which is positioned off the coast of the island.

Thanks to CryEngine2, Crysis will be able to display the most detailed environments ever to be seen in real-time.

This will enable Crytek to have more power over what they want the game to look like and what mood they want each scene to have. Let me go in to some more detail about each type of environment.

Tropical Jungle
Crysis is set on one of the spratly islands in the pacific ocean. 1/3 of Crysis will be played in the jungle fighting mostly North Koreans. This jungle setting will be similiar to Far Cry, but a lot better in many ways.

The environment of crysis is more than a pretty location. It's a tactical arena so to speak. With destructible vegetation, vehicles and structures, you'll be able to reshape the environment to suit your hunting preferences. In someways, crysis is made up of multiple games rolled in to one. It can be a fps, landscaping game, building demolition game or a racing game.

When the alien ship creates the ice sphere, it creates drastic climatic changes. So storms & tornadoes will be caused by this rapid change in island temperate.

Frozen Jungle
When the alien ship opens up. The area around it flash freezes within a force field like dome. It will be similiar to the Jungle (mentioned above) but everything will be frozen which will create a very gloomy environment. As you can imagine, most of the vegetation will be very brital so you may have to adjust your fighting tactics. For example, If you shoot down a tree, all the leaves will shatter.

The cold environment will have negative effects on certain weapons and vehicles. However, you'll be protected by all the tornadoes and storms from within the ice sphere.

The Alien Ship
Towards the end of the game you'll infiltrate the alien ship. The alien ship will be monstress. Over 2km high and about 500 metres in diameter.

Not much is known about the environment inside the alien ship, but we do know that you will be able to move in a freecam type mode with 360 degrees of freedom. So you can move up and down, left and right, as well as backwards and forwards. This is due to the zero-g environment which the aliens live in.
